One Italian university title and one appearance in the heats—that is the tally for Alma Mater Studiorum at the National University Rowing Championships. For two days, Sabaudia (Latina) and its eight-lane rowing course were taken over by top university talents. Among them were Alice Casadei (Astrophysics and Cosmology) and Manuel Mignani (Automation Engineering)—key athletes for the University of Bologna and high-level competitors for the Canottieri Ravenna club. Manuel Mignani won the gold medal in the 2,000-meter race.
“Participating in the National University Championships in Sabaudia was a fantastic experience. Competing in Alma Mater’s colors on a prestigious course like Lake Sabaudia makes it even more exciting. As for my final in the novice single sculls, I am really happy with how it went. I tried to set my pace right from the first few meters to take control of the race and hold the lead until the finish line. This victory rewards the sacrifices made during training and the daily commute I make to study in Bologna. I thank the university for its support and for the opportunity to experience this event.”
Alice Casadei was eliminated in the heats. “After a year-long break, I couldn’t wait to take part in the National University Championships,” says Alice. “Getting back to the racecourse, meeting other young women who balance their studies with training, and competing side-by-side was truly exciting. The 500-meter sprint was my first-ever singles race, and conditions on Lake Sabaudia were absolutely perfect. I want to thank CUS Bologna for this wonderful experience, which has brought me back to rowing.
