“Safeguarding” refers to the set of procedures and practices designed to ensure that children who attend formal or informal (educational, social, and/or other) supportive settings are always protected from possible maltreatment and abuse by adults, including adults in a fiduciary position, and that these settings know how to respond appropriately to reports of suspected abuse or maltreatment.
