CUS Bologna shines in Riccione: Sara Billi advances to the Finals in Rome in the gold and master divisions

CUS Bologna achieved great results in Riccione at the Gold National Championships and the Masters Fencing Trials.

The Gold competition serves as a testing ground for CUS Bologna’s ambitions and dreams. Sara Billi hit her mark by finishing in seventh place. Thanks to this placement in the final eight, the CUS athlete secured her qualification (reserved for the top sixteen) for the finals in Rome. We’ll see Sara back on the piste in the capital on June 3.

Federico Polito, competing in the cadet category, finished among the top sixteen: a highly respectable performance that demonstrates his technical and mental growth. Federico is one of the most promising prospects in the club’s youth program.

But there were also impressive results from the Masters division, starting with Sara Billi. Sara, competing in Category 0, took home a bronze medal. This third-place finish, combined with the silver she won in the Italian Masters Cup, firmly establishes her at the top of the national rankings in her category. In the same category, Giulia Boni placed 18th and Rina Goluveva 47th. And the others? Cinzia Marmiroli finished in 32nd place after starting the day with the qualifying round and two victories.

After an excellent group stage, Andrea Gemelli finished among the top 64, while Alessandro Mengoli, competing in Category 1, finished in 45th place. And the team? The quartet of Sara Billi, Giulia Boni, Claudia Cavallini, and Cinzia Marmiroli secured sixth place for CUS Bologna, a result that speaks to their strong cohesion and team spirit.

“It was a very challenging away trip, but a rewarding one,” says Sara Billi. “Finishing seventh in the Gold division was essential to securing my spot in the Rome finals, which was my goal. I’m glad I was able to maintain consistency in the Masters division as well, both individually and with my teammates. Now the focus shifts to June 3: it will be an honor to represent CUS Bologna in such a prestigious setting.”

The CUS Bologna season is drawing to a close with two major events. In Riccione, with the national championships for the under-14s, and in Rome on June 3, with the national finals—the highlight of the year—where Sara Billi will face off against the elite of Italian fencing.
