Another prestigious international triumph for a student at the University of Bologna. Giulia Bezzi, a first-year student on the degree programme in Political, Social and International Sciences, won the gold medal in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the junior (Under-21) category of Ju-no Kata judo at the European Championships.
Kata is a pairs discipline, and Giulia shared the top step of the podium with her team-mate Sara Orlando. The two Italian athletes – both representing the Accademia Judo Casalecchio Club – won over the entire international judging panel with a masterful performance scoring a total of 380 points. Last year, the pair had won bronze at the European Championships in Riga.
“We are absolutely delighted with the result,” says Giulia. “To round off our time in the Junior category with a gold medal is a huge success. Our dedication, hard work and sacrifices have finally paid off; we are immensely grateful to our coaches, who have spurred us on and supported us to help us perform at our very best.”

At the start of the year, to further enhance her sporting and academic journey, Giulia was awarded Dual Career status as a student-athlete: the special programme promoted by the University of Bologna to support elite student-athletes, enabling them to better balance an international competitive career with their academic commitments.
