The Alma Mater Studiorum continues to take centre stage. This was the case at the Italian Summer Finswimming Championships. In Agropoli (Salerno), the CUS Bologna team – accompanied for the occasion by coach Alex Battista – secured medals and accolades. This is further confirmation of the excellent work carried out in recent years within the youth sector.
Among the standout performers was Ginevra Dalla Casa, who shone in the 1st category with a silver in the 400 monofin and a bronze in the 200 monofin, as well as two top-five finishes in the 50 and 100 of the same discipline. There were excellent performances from Ginevra Mosticchio, who won bronze in the 400 fins, and from Emma Zappoli, who finished fourth in the same distance. The strength of the team was particularly evident in the relays.
The girls in the 1st category won two silver medals: in the 4x100 fin swim, with Zappoli, Mosticchio, Dalla Casa and Serena Martelli, and in the 4x50 mixed relay (2 fin swimmers and 2 monofin swimmers), with Zappoli, Aurora Ialacci, Martelli and Dalla Casa. Also noteworthy were the fourth-place finishes for the women’s 4x100 monofin relay and the mixed 4x50 monofin relay in the second category.
On the men’s side, Riccardo Canevese performed well, finishing fourth three times in the 50 free, 100 monofin and 200 monofin in the 1st category. In the 2nd category, there were strong performances from Samuele Sensini, fifth in the 400 monofin, and Matteo Bacciottini, seventh in the 400 fins.
Rounding off the picture were the performances of Serena Martelli, sixth in the 400 and 200 finswim events; Irene Orlandini, sixth in the Category 2 400 finswim; and Federica Brunelli, sixth in the 200 monofin and eighth in the 50 freediving. The contributions of Aurora Ialacci and Francesca Marata are also worth highlighting.
With 11 athletes competing and 47 race entries, CUS Bologna returns from Agropoli knowing it has brought an intense season to a successful close. For most of the athletes in the younger age groups, the competition marks the final event before the summer break. The team will reconvene in September to start afresh with enthusiasm and ambition.
