CUS Bologna has once again proved its worth in open water, finishing in a leading position at the second round of the Italian Long-Distance Finswimming Cup, held at Lake Standiana. The Bologna-based team, accompanied by coaches Veronica Arrighi, Alex Battista and Zoe Bersanetti, fielded a delegation of fourteen members and, with 200 points, secured a prestigious third place in the competitive category.
The team’s leader is Davide Campagnoli, who secured a splendid silver medal in the 1000 fin race. There were also excellent results from the women’s team, with Giulia Savino finishing in the top five in the same event, followed by strong performances from Matilde Del Greco and Silvia Gualandi, both of whom played key roles. Gualandi and Del Greco, students at the University of Bologna and part of the Dual Career programme, perfectly exemplify the link between top-level sport and university studies – one of the defining features of the CUS Bologna project.
In the longer distances, Alice Falchi and Vittoria Rizzello put in strong performances in the 5000 monofin, securing valuable points for the team. Rounding off the results were contributions from Emma Zappoli, Ginevra Dalla Casa, Serena Martelli, Damiano Palleschi, Matteo Bacciottini, Alejandro Lopez Quispe, Samuele Sensini and Riccardo Canevese, all of whom played a key role in building up the club’s points tally.
The third-place finish in Ravenna attests to the strength of CUS Bologna, which has also distinguished itself in long-distance events. The team will be back in action on 12 July at the Suviana Basin for the third round of the Italian Long-Distance Cup.
