Things are getting serious for the University of Bologna at the EUSA European University Championships in Salerno. The basketball teams have arrived. The men’s team are in action today (Palladino’s women’s volleyball team are also in action, having already secured a convincing victory), whilst things haven’t gone quite so well for the table tennis team, who are paying the price for nerves. This nervousness has also been seen in the past with the basketball and volleyball teams, who subsequently began regularly featuring on the podium and often taking the top spot.
The Unibo men’s basketball team is in Group C alongside the Polish Naval Academy (Poland), the University of Debrecen (Hungary) and the University of Zadar (Croatia). They make their debut today at 3.30 pm against the Croatians from Zadar, followed by a match against Debrecen tomorrow at the same time. They round off their group stage on Tuesday, again at 3.30 pm, against the Polish Naval Academy. The Alma Mater Studiorum women’s basketball team has been drawn in Group E alongside Freiburg and Zagreb. They make their debut tomorrow at 12 noon against the University of Freiburg, with their second match taking place on Tuesday at 11 am against the University of Zagreb. Things didn’t go too well in table tennis. The men’s team were beaten 3–0 by Zamosc University. The women’s team suffered the same (negative) result, losing to the University of Pecs.
