CUS Bologna secured victory on the final day of the FITP Serie D3 group stage, defeating San Felice sul Panaro 3-0. The result clinches first place in the group and a spot in the promotion playoffs, scheduled for May 24.
Francesco Girotti, after winning the first set 6-1, found himself trailing in the second: down 3-4, he broke his opponent’s serve to tie the score at 4-4, then managed the subsequent games until the decisive point that closed out the match 2-0.
On the adjacent court, Mattia Chiarelli played a highly technical match. In the first set, he rallied from a 4-5 deficit to win the set 7-5. In the second, after building a two-break lead (5-2), he had to withstand his opponent’s comeback (5-3) before closing out the match with solid, error-free play. The victory came after about two hours.
The Lavalle-Pontieri duo completed the 3-0 sweep. In the first set, the two CUS players won decisively 6-1. In the second, San Felice rallied to take a 4-2 lead, but Lavalle and Pontieri turned the score around, winning the set 7-5.
CUS Bologna finishes the group stage undefeated, with three wins in as many matches. The knockout phase for promotion begins on May 24.
