CUS Bologna continues to shine in finswimming. And it’s at the top of its game in Aix-en-Provence (France), which is hosting a World Cup event. Sixty teams from around the world have gathered for the CMAS World Cup Finswimming Indoor: leading the Alma Mater team is coach Veronica Arrighi, who guided her athletes to a total of 575 points.
The star of the show was Christian Degli Esposti, who delivered a truly outstanding performance. The CUS athlete won gold in the Senior 200-meter surface race (1:23.57), establishing himself among the world’s top specialists, and secured a splendid silver medal in the 400-meter surface race with a time of 3:04.34, which qualifies him for the World Championships scheduled to take place in South Korea at the end of June.
Degli Esposti, along with teammates Simone Ravagli and Matilde Del Greco, is part of the Dual Career program, underscoring the importance of combining university studies with high-level sports.
Excellent results from the youth division, where Giulia Savino stood out in the Junior 2 category, winning three silver medals in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter finswimming events and a bronze medal in the 50-meter event.
There were numerous top finishes. Emma Musolesi took second place in the Junior 1 400-meter breaststroke and narrowly missed a medal with a fourth-place finish in the Junior 1 200-meter breaststroke. Simone Ravagli reaffirmed his status as one of the best in the Senior category with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter breaststroke and a top-ten finish in the 200-meter breaststroke.
Gianluca Ghini showed promise, excelling in the longer distances with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter surface event and an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter event, as did Matilde Del Greco, who made the top ten in the Senior 400-meter bifin event. Determination and competitive spirit were also on display for Damiano Palleschi, who competed in the dive and surface events, with a 13th-place finish in the 200-meter dive as his best result.
The trip to France underscores the technical and competitive growth of CUS Bologna, which is now consistently competing at the highest international levels thanks to a young, cohesive, and increasingly prominent team.
