The European University Championships are just round the corner. And, before setting off for Salerno, the university authorities bid farewell to the athletes from the ‘Due Torri’ during the official training camp for the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the women’s volleyball team.
Present at the PalaCus were Simone Ciacci, the Rector’s delegate for Sport and a CUS Bologna councillor; Roberta Li Calzi, the City of Bologna’s Councillor for Sport; and Silvia Lombardi, vice-president of CUS Bologna.
In his speech, Professor Simone Ciacci expressed great satisfaction at seeing so many students wearing the colours of the Alma Mater and CUSB, representing the University across Europe and helping to uphold the reputation of the University of Bologna: “My heartfelt wish is that you embrace this experience with enthusiasm, demonstrating the values of the University of Bologna both on and off the field, and returning home knowing that you have given your all.”
The Councillor for Sport was also on the same wavelength. “In recent years, the Alma Mater-CUS Bologna teams have enjoyed great success, bringing prestige not only to the University but also to the city. These student-athletes deserve our trust – a trust that has been repaid by the splendid results achieved in European competitions.”
Finally, Silvia Lombardi began by conveying the greetings of the President of CUS Bologna, Margherita Mezzetti: “I know well,” says Silvia, “the thrill of wearing the colours of the University of Bologna and representing one’s university in an international competition. Being both a student and an athlete is a unique experience, one that leaves its mark on one’s academic, sporting and personal journey. In recent years, the University of Bologna and the Alma Mater-CUSB teams have risen to the very top of European university sport thanks to the vision of CUS Bologna, careful planning and the significant investments made by the University in the development of university sport. I therefore hope that all the teams can make the most of this opportunity – and perhaps even achieve some highly prestigious results,”
