CUS Bologna also beat CUS Genoa in the quarter-finals of the Eastern Piedmont National University Championships and progressed to the semi-finals. We’re talking about rugby. However, once in the semi-finals, the red-and-white-clad lads were first beaten by CUS Ferrara, 19–12, and then by CUS Parma, 26–7. The result of all this is that the Alma Mater Studiorum team finished fourth in the rugby competition.
The comment comes from Giacomo Anteghini, assistant coach of CUS Bologna rugby. “It’s a shame we weren’t able to repeat last year’s medal-winning performance, but we still finished in the top four. With a squad that’s partly new and revamped, and for that very reason, we can’t help but be pleased.”
The chance to stand on the podium has simply been postponed for a year, as the UniBO lads continue to work with this magnificent goal in mind.
It’s a very short step from rugby to tennis. In the women’s singles, Vittoria Modesti won her quarter-final 6-0, 6-1. Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Nicola Ravaioli, also in the quarter-finals, won 6-1, 6-2 and did even better in the semi-finals, despite the match going to a third set: he lost the first set 6-7 but came back to beat his opponent 7-6, 6-2. In the women’s doubles, meanwhile, the pair of Vittoria Modesti and Clara Sansoni progressed 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. The same scenario played out for the men’s pair, but in this case in the quarter-finals, with Nicola Ravaioli and Andrea Valli winning 7-6, 3-6, 10-8.
