CNU 2026: DAY 8

The gold medal tally now stands at eight. But CUS Bologna’s overall medal haul is growing, as is traditional, at the national university championships, which this year are known as the ‘Piemonte Orientale’ tournament. Two bronze medals have been won by Matteo Guandalini (kumite -75) and Francesco Pignatti (kumite -67). And a well-deserved silver medal was secured by Filippo Paganelli in the 100m hurdles.

Taekwondo also had a successful outing, winning two golds, one silver and two bronzes. Gold went to Diego Gessaroli (Koryo), with Allegra Grassi achieving the same result in freestyle. Allegra also took home a silver. The two bronzes, meanwhile, went to Linda Cecchi (freestyle) and Hristina Miljkovic (5th-degree poomsae).

And on the final day, there will be more taekwondo action featuring a host of top competitors. We will see Stefano Crescentini (black belt, -80), Matteo Diessa (black belt, -68), Jorge Santiago Saldana Tassara (black belt, -68); Alessandra Forgiarini (blue belt, +67), Elena Montroni (black belt, +67), Emily De Silvestri (black belt, -67), Linda Cecchi (black belt, -67), Hristina Miljkovic (blue belt, -67), Gaia Colucci (red belt, -57), Eva Bertani (black belt, -57), Letizia Cera (red belt, -57), Elena Foglietta (black belt, -57), Allegra Grassi (belt, -57), Laila Harti (black belt, -57), Joy Fructuoso (red belt, -49), Beatrice Di Lauro (red belt, -49) and Elisabetta Badioli (black belt, -49).

Keep an eye out for the karate events featuring Martina Padoan and Vittoria Crosara (kata), Alessia Barelli (kata and kumite –61kg), Sara Malaguti (kumite –61kg), Eleonora Mazzocchi (kumite –55kg) and Francesca Amarante (kumite –68kg).

And of course, athletics – a sport so dear to the president of CUS Bologna, Margherita Mezzetti – could not be missing. The red-and-white team includes Dario Collura (400m hurdles), Linda Bertaccini (long jump), Andrea Magnano (high jump), Angelo Fania (discus throw), Riccardo Sintoni (800m), Giuseppe Kiteso Kasaku and Giorgio Marfella (200m), Alice Cecchini and Sofia Bedeschi (200m) and Martina Fedriga (shot put).
